Boy with the Blue Hat

Portraits and pop-art have a long and intertwined history. In Boy with the Blue Hat, I have merged characteristics of pop-art such as bright colors and a single colored background with traditional portraiture to create a unique stylization.

Roland looks to the Renaissance artists Michelangelo and Caravaggio to draw inspiration. He also has immersed himself in the works of the Harlem Renaissance painters. You can see the influence of both of these movements as Roland delicately melds the two together to create his own unique style.

Sunset Velvet Rag 315g (20mil) boasts a 100% cotton rag base, with a velvet (or etching-like) surface. This paper is designed to meet the highest printing standards needed for museum quality, limited edition prints.
